Late Winter Shoreline Bass Fishing Mozingo Lake

A few days ago, I posted another general article about early spring bass shoreline fishing opportunities as the ice cover melts away.  Since we were blessed with the first significant late winter warm-up over the past several days, I decided to head over to Mozingo Lake and check out the ice conditions.

As I approached the Mozingo Lake dam area on the south end of the reservoir, a smile quickly flashed across my face!

Why? …

Simple, when I caught the first glimpse of the lake’s surface, I immediately noticed two things:

  1. The surface of the ice was dark and very ratty!
  2. The ice had lost its grip on the shoreline and”fish-able” pockets of open water were evident!

Mozingo Lake Losing Its Ice!

So off I headed to the “City Ramp” on the eastern side of the lake to verify my initial findings.

I was so elated when I got to the ramp, I broke out my Flip camcorder and made a quick video about the lake facilities and shoreline bass fishing honey hole ( <== video link) along the ramp shoreline (now posted on YouTube).

It’s nice to see … ice out has almost arrived at Mozingo Lake!

Looks like something closer to a “Flipping Stick” will accompany me and the camcorder during the next trip over to the ramp … ;)

Just remember the little bass angling gem is waiting for you in northwest Missouri and visit Mozingo Lake the first chance you get!
