Mozingo Lake Bass in Pre-Spawn Transition

I came across a report yesterday stating the water temperature at Mozingo Lake on April 15th had finally hit 60 degrees.

Pretty amazing since it was only 30 days ago ice-out finally arrived at Mozingo Lake.

Well today (4/17), a quick trip over to Mozingo to take its temperature and check out the fishing conditions confirmed the surface temps had indeed surpassed 60 and was actually 62 degrees at 4:30 P.M.

Though a cold front had slowed fishing a little, bass were still being caught on main lake and secondary points as well as creek channel edges. It appears the bass were being a major push into pre-spawn staging areas getting ready to make their move into the shallows for the main spring event over the next few weeks.

It will be interesting to see how the anglers competing in the second N2IT Fishing’s Mozingo Lake bass tournament fare tomorrow on 4/18/10.
