Mozingo Lake Warming for New Bass Fishing Season

Over the last two weeks I have been providing a few updates about the rapidly changing conditions over at Mozingo Lake (Maryville, Missouri) as they pertain to the new bass fishing season.

Mozingo Lake Fishing!

It was only two short weeks ago (March 18th) that “Old Man Winter” released his frozen fingers and the ice finally left Mozingo Lake after a very long winter.

This past weekend (March 28th to be exact), N2It Fishing held the first of their 2010 Mozingo Lake Tournament Series where a total of 18 bass angler teams hit the water for the event. (Fortunately it wasn’t still frozen ;) …)

Under post-cold front conditions, the 18 team field headed out at 7:00 AM.

At the end of the day, less than half the returning field weighed a fish and only one team creeled a five fish limit weighing 12.48 pounds.  Big bass for the March 28th event was just under 5 pounds (4.82) so all in all, very atypical for Mozingo!

Atypical that is until you remember that it was just over one week since ice out which is usually gone by the beginning of March!

One other important note was the water temperatures reported by the tournament anglers … 39-42 degrees (F).

It appears Lake Mozingo is starting to warm up and so should the bass fishing especially with the very warm temperatures here in NW Missouri this week!
