In summary, here are the major points to consider when selecting the reel for your new bass fishing rod and reel combo …

1. The obvious (hopefully) … pick a spinning reel to complete the spinning rod combo and a baitcasting reel for a baitcasting combo …
2. Buy a decent quality reel ($40 t $100) with ball bearings, proper gear ratio, and one with a comfortable feel (personal preference) …
3. The big-tip – make sure the reel’s weight balances on the rod such that the center of balance is in your hand (meaning there is equal weight on both the butt and tip side) …
4. Opt for a lightweight outfit (actual weight of the combo) if available since heavier outfits can tire you out during a long day on the water …
